Before you read, turn up your speakers to “Girl and the Sea,” by Aussie electro duo The Presets. This song is several summers old, and I love it.
“Last year I went to Miami for the first time ever, as part of a fashion press trip, and stayed for Art Basel. I didn’t want to love it, but I did. It’s a place that feels forever bright and unburdened by taste or irony. And it’s beautiful in its own tacky way: all the pastel facades, the palm trees, the mountainous pineapple cocktails. This year I went just for Basel, with my world-best friend Adrian. He’s approximately the colour of white chocolate and was terrified he’d get a tan; he wore Doc Martens on the beach. We had fun anyway. This storyboard is brought to you by my experiences, and it’s about the breeze, the sunbleached glory, and the “art deco-dence” of America’s uncoolest major city.”
1. Navy stripes, timeless and seaworthy. Shirt, $75, by A.P.C @ The Webster Miami

Nuh-uh. Skirt, $don’t even want to know, by Mary Katrantzou. Her line is sold at The Room @ The Bay but the skirt is not yet in stores 3. Galliano’s swan-print satin foulard as head scarf, to go with your rented Mustang convertible, natch. Scarf, $200, by John Galliano @ Luisa Viaroma 4. A costume cocktail ring, all crystal and deco, like the ones you can find in the Sunday flea markets along otherwise-tacky Lincoln Road. Ring, $325 @ eBay 5. Fleur d’Oranger perfume (’cause orange blossoms are the official flower of Florida), $132 for 50 ml, by Le Labo @ Gee Beauty 7. A painting by the incredible, deeply romantic Hernan Bas. He’s the best artist in Miami, I’m pretty sure. Wish I saw his show at the Brooklyn Museum last year. “The Swan Prince,” by Hernan Bas @ Lehmann Maupin 8. For a little linen-chaise reading. The new Lula Mag (guest-edited by Kate & Laura Mulleavy), $25 @ the Alchemist’s second Lincoln Road shop (way up atop a parking garage–so rad) 9. I can’t be trusted with designer sunglasses; I’d lose my own eyes if they weren’t attached. But youuu should buy these Dries babies, made in collab with Linda Farrow, for your next beach weekend. They’re the exact colour of fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. Sunglasses, $430 @ Linda Farrow.
